Chevron Fuel Station

A full-service fuel station for a national brand — sixteen fueling positions under a signature canopy, delivered from raw sitework to open-for-business.

The project

Fuel stations look simple from the driver's seat: pull in, fill up, drive off. Building one is anything but. This Chevron project combined a convenience retail operation, a car wash, and a multi-island fueling plaza under a signature branded canopy — each with its own technical, regulatory, and brand requirements to satisfy.

ECDC delivered the project as general contractor, carrying it from raw sitework through certificate of occupancy. That meant orchestrating earthwork and paving, underground storage and piping contractors, canopy erection, electrical and lighting, and Chevron's own image and signage standards — on a schedule where every idle week is lost revenue for the operator.

Where engineering earns its keep

A fueling plaza is a civil engineering exercise wearing a retail brand. The pavement has to drain — but never toward the fuel islands or the street. The canopy has to shrug off hurricane-zone winds on slender columns. And everything below grade has to coexist with tanks, piping, and conduit runs that inspectors examine closely, and rightly so.

Engineer's Note

The canopy is the structural headline of any fuel station: a large, flat roof on widely spaced columns is exactly the shape wind wants to lift. Canopy foundations were engineered for uplift as well as gravity loads, and the site grading and drainage plan had to move stormwater off acres of pavement while keeping runoff and any potential spills contained and directed per environmental permitting requirements. Coordinating the fuel-system installation with foundations and utilities — so no trade dug up another's work — was the quiet discipline that kept the schedule intact.

The finished station operates as a high-volume site with fueling, convenience retail, and a car wash — the kind of commercial project where design, engineering, and construction under one firm shows its value on every page of the schedule.
